Wins for Seniors & Juniors..

Our Division 4 (Junior C team) and Senior Hurling teams had league wins last week as the weather changed and we saw the first week of really long evenings. Our Juvenile teams are really busy with matches for all age-groups. History repeated itself once more in Waterford, shades of 1967 and 1974, a man  sent off and Waterford winning. There’ll be a pressure-cooker atmosphere in Pairc Ui Chaoimh next Sunday when the wounded Banner come to town. Our Lotto Jackpot is at €17,400. We had a great Car Boot Sale last Sunday and a mini scrap collection during the week. So it’s all systems go on every front as the month of May is just around the corner.

Amarenco East Cork Junior H L Div 4.

Our second Junior Hurling team played their 3rd game of their league campaign last Tuesday evening in what was welcome sunshine in Pairc na Bride  Rathcormac.  Cobh were the visitors in their green and gold strip. Both teams started well but scores were hard to come by and after fifteen minutes it was just two points each. Two goals in a minute changed the game in our favour with Craig finishing both goals well after good work from Shane in the build-up. Not to be out done by his older brother Ryan then scored our 3rd goal and added another point before half time to leave  us ahead by 3-3 to 2 points at the break.

We started the second half in good style and scored the first three points. Credit to Cobh who kept battling and scored six of the next 8 points to leave the score 3-8 to 0-8 before Shane got our fourth goal to leave the final score 4-8 to 0-8.

Our next Division 4 league game is against Sars with date still TBC. Team, R O’Riordan, C O’Dowd, B Collins, L Collins, J Kearney, M Liddane, Eldon O’Connor, L O’Flynn, R O’Callaghan, K Obi, F O’Flynn, J Buckley, C O’Callaghan, D Buckley, Shane O’Flynn Subs. WALSH PARK WOES ONCE MORE.

Isn’t hurling amazing? Last Sunday morning Cork and Clare were the hot tips to win the first two games in this years Munster Senior Hurling Championship. Clare, the League Champions were expected to beat the All Ireland champions Limerick in ‘fortress Cusack park’, yes they should have won -but they didn’t! It was really history repeating itself in Walsh Park as echoes of 1967 and 1974 came back to haunt the Rebels. Ok, it wasn’t just the sending off cost us the game but the fact that Waterford simply played a brand of hurling that we had no answer to. What now for Sunday next? Stick with last Sunday’s starting XV or throw caution to the winds and introduce 5 or 6 different players/ A tough call -that’s why I’d never make a good selector!  Hopefully Cork can get their campaign back on track and then get a result or two against Limerick and Tipperary!

TAKE 5 KATIE!

In the National League earlier this year our own Katie Quirke was a big loss to Cork after suffering a serious injury. Thankfully Katie has recovered . She lined out last Sunday with Cork and her fie points from frees helped the Cork girls to a Munster semi final win over Waterford. Well done Katie and to Leah Hallihan also who came on for Cork.

CORK BUSY AT UNDER 20 UNDER 17.

The Cork u 20 hurlers are at home this Friday night to Limerick at 7pm in Pairc Ui Chaoimh with two good wins v Waterford and Clare. They then play Tipperary in Tom Semple’s Field on May 3rd. Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a point for Rovers within the first 2 min . A. Hackett was in great form and got a point for Rovers before a very impressive save from goalie N.Collins . Lisgoold had equalised before J. Fitzgerald secured a goal just before halftime.

The 2nd half saw an early point for Lisgoold before Fitzgerald hit back with another 1-2 . H.O’Keeffe found the back of the net again for Rovers with a great goal . Many thanks to Denis Ahern for having the juvenile pitch lined & ready .

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL v Douglas ‘2’. The Bride Rovers under13 boys had a fantastic win against Douglas in their first football league game. Going in at halftime down two points having played against the wind they played some brilliant football in the second  half and held Douglas scoreless to run out convincing winners on a scoreline Bride Rovers 4.12 Douglas 2.4

UNDER 14 HURLING

The  under14s had a hurling challenge on Friday evening against Inniscarra.  With the championship kicking off this weekend it was our last game before the serious stuff starts. Inniscarra were very dominant in the first half and led at half-time by 0-11  to 1-1. Our lads upped the effort in the second half and played some lovely hurling.  Finishing down by 2 points but creating a good few goal chances which hopefully we will take in championship.  Inniscarra 1-17 Bride Rovers 3-9.. We start the football championships on Friday evening away to Carrigtwohill at 7.

UNDER 15 FOOTBALL.

Our U15 footballers played their second league game of the season hosting Eire Og. This was a marked improvement on our previous game v Kiltha Og. Missing Mícháel, Mark, Callum, Dylan, Darren, Evan and Conn we still put out a competitive team with 19 in total togged.

Unfortunately during the game we lost Sebastian to a hand injury and Finn with a leg injury which cost us in the last 10 minutes as we conceded 3 late points. Final score 2-10 to 3-4. Training continues every Tuesday night with our next game v Bishopstown on Wednesday March 1st. We are hosting Feile on May 6th with Houghal, Kiltha Og and Inniscarra so it will be all hands on deck for parking, catering etc.

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL.

Bride Rovers under 16s played their second football league match of the campaign with a humdinger against Lisgoold with whom they'd drawn and lost narrowly in two fantastic games in 2023.  The match started brightly for the boys and they sprinted into an early lead with the breeze at their backs.  They built on score after score with Donagh Hurley, Garry Quirke, Shane O'Dowd, Éanna Lyons and Eoghan Buckley among the scorers in that first half and by halftime had amassed a substantial lead 5-6 to 0-2.  The aforementioned scorers were supported by a resolute defence with James Larkin, Cathal Barry and Darragh O'Farrell making forays in support of the midfield, with Jamie Walsh, Jack Lynch and Robert Sweeney holding tight behind them. Denis Fitzgerald worked hard throughout in midfield, with Con McCormack and Matthew Kenny doing the same from the half forward line.    Fresh legs came in at halftime in the form of Calum Somers and Tadgh Cronin. With the history between these two teams the boys knew, despite the score, that the match wasn't over.  And so it transpired.  Despite having dominated possession in the first half, Lisgoold eased into the game in the second half and an early goal and a point had their tails up and the match was in full swing.  The boys still maintained a lot of possession in the second half but just couldn't score, playing against what was a substantial breeze; this despite some excellent kickouts and some brave interceptions from Adam Kelleher.  Lisgoold crept back into the match and with five minutes left there were five points between the teams - then Lisgoold scored a rocket of a goal and it was down to two, followed by another point; down to one.  The boys worked it up the field and finally, with four minutes left, Éanna Lyons scored the boys first (and only) point of the second half and it steadied the nerves.  Lisgoold scored again but the boys held out for a one point win.  Some great performances from the boys who really dug in to win a cracker of a match.  Final Score: Bride Rovers 5-7 Lisgoold 4-9.  Panel: Adam Kelleher,  Jamie Walsh, Jack Lynch, Robert Sweeney, James Larkin, Cathal Barry, Darragh O'Farrell, Éanna Lyons, Denis Fitzgerald, Con McCormack, Shane O'Dowd, Matthew Kenny, Donagh Hurley, Garry Quirke, Eoghan Buckley, Calum Somer & Tadhg Cronin.

UNDER 12 SECOND TEAM IN ACTION.

Our Team 2 faced off against Carrigtwohill's second team, echoing their previous football encounter just days ago. Carrigtwohill stormed ahead, leading 3-3 to no score within the first 10 minutes. However, our team rallied, holding Carrigtwohill to just one more point for the remainder of the game. The final scoreline stood at 3-4 to 1-1, with our team's remarkable resilience fuelled by outstanding teamwork, particularly evident in the second half.

Team: Oisin Dorgan, Liam Harrington, Scott Lynch, Cameron Hoare, Luke Fitzgerald, James O'Leary, Ryan Hogan, Jack Barry, Seán O'Dowd, Cian Barry (1-0), Jack Gubbins, Aidee Carr, Harry Fitzgerald, Theo Byrd (0-1), Jack O'Donovan, Conor Dorgan, Darragh Feeney, Dara Murphy, Eoin Burke.
