AGM next Monday, Lotto at €12,000...

Hard to believe that we’re heading towards Christmas and the playing season for this year is still ongoing.  Next Monday night is a special date in our calendar as our Annual General Meeting is scheduled. The Club AGM is a two way gathering as we reflect on 2022 and look forward to 2023 -only six weeks away! Reaching the semi final of the Senior A Hurling championship, winning the Junior B Junior Hurling and under 19 Hurling championships were some of the highlights on the playing fields during 2022.  After Group games against Carrigtwohill, Ballyhea and Ballymartle we had a comprehensive win over Cloyne in the quarterfinal but lost out to eventual winners Fr O Neills in the semi final for the second year in a row. The Junior B win ended a 15 year gap since we captured this title in 2007. Our Under 19 hurlers are still in the County Championship, we are to meet Owen Gaels. We lost our 2021 JAFC crown to Cobh who contest the Co. Final on Sunday next.  Our acquisition of land in Ballybrowney for further playing pitches has progressed and plans are afoot to commence development her in the Spring. Fundraising will feature hugely in the coming years to ensure finance for the Development Project. The first of several initiatives took place earlier this year with a major re launch of our Weekly Club Lotto and this was a major success.  At Pairc na Bride a lot of major work was completed to improve the facilities for our players, supporters and members. During the season we hosted 10 County Board and East Cork Board Championship games at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level. All these games took a lot of organising from our Match Day Sub Committee.  During the year the Ladies and Juvenile Clubs were really busy with so many games. With Club teams across the codes at every year age group from under 6 upwards the numbers playing with Bride Rovers during the year was well over 300. The Annual General Meeting on Monday night will be held in the Clubroom in Pairc na Bride at 8pm. Everyone is welcome and new members are always very welcome.

To date Niall Erskine of Donegal, Pat Teehan from Offaly and Armagh’s Jarlath Burns have declared as candidates. Jarlath Burns, former Armagh football and Central Council delegate and well known TG4 Commentator was runner up to McCarthy in the last election. He is a member of the Silverbridge Club and a member of the Armagh County Board. In 2009 he was elected Chairman of the GAA 125 Committee when the association celebrated it’s 125th Anniversar

BEST WISHES TO COBH.

Last year we defeated Cobh in the East Cork Junior A Football Final;. The Cobh side had their revenge this year defeating us in the quarter final. They won out in East Cork and next Sunday meet Kilmurry in the Cork County Premier Junior Football Final. We wish Cobh all the very best.

EAST CORK GAA CHAT NIGHT.

The late Noel Hogan of Youghal GAA Club came up with the idea awhile back of an informal get-together of former GAA players and Club Officials in a relaxed format. The Get together goes ahead in Youghal GAA Club on this  Friday November the 11th at 7.30pm, all are welcome.

 UNDER 12’s IN TIPPERARY.

Our under 12 boys finished up their season on Sunday with a trip to Tipp! We left Pairc na Bride at half 8 and headed to St Marys in Clonmel for what turned out to be a very competitive game of hurling.  All the boys got stuck in from the start in mucky conditions.  Over the hour all the lads played some great hurling and came out on top by a few points. St Marys have promised to come to Rathcormac next year for a rematch! Next on the agenda was food, bowling and some team building games. We discovered a few goodish singers on the way home too. Special thanks to Damien Healy for organising the trip - even if it was to Tipperary!. It is just brilliant for these lads to be playing hurling in the month of November against teams from a different County.

This has been a great year for the lads. It's a big step up from the Go Games format to 13-15 aside games with referees, but the lads have stepped up impressively.  We got to the football league final and hurling plate semi-final. Both leagues were very competitive and everyone of our panel of 20 played their part. Thanks to all the boys and the coaches for their dedication and thanks also to all the parents for their cooperation during the year.

Roll on under 13!

A HURLERS PRAYER.

Give me O Lord a hurlers skill
With strength of arm and speed of limb
Unerring eye for the flying ball
And courage to match them whatever befall
May my aim be steady - my stroke be true
My actions manly - my misses few
And no matter what way the game may go
May I part in friendship with every foe
When the final whistle for me is blown
And I stand at last at Gods Judgement Throne
May the great Referee when he calls my name
Say you hurled like a man, you played the game

COLMANS IN O CALLAGHAN CUP.

Despite a ferocious morning last Wednesday the St Colman’s hurlers lined out on Wednesday evening against CBC in the O Callaghan Cup -Cork Colleges Senior Hurling. The game went ahead in the 4G Pitch at Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Colmans had a good win on a score-line of  16 points to 12. Next up in this competition is Midleton CBS.

 JUNIOR COUNTY.

A few weeks ago in Rostellan we were very unlucky to lose to St Finbarr’s in the Quarter Final of the County Junior B grade Championship. The Barrs defeated Inniscarra last weekend. They will face Ballyhea in the County Final after jack Russell’s Club had a big win over Oliver Plunketts. Congrats also to Ballygiblin who are into the Munster semi final v Colligan of Waterford.

DOWN MEMORY LANE NOVEMBER 2008.

Junior ‘B’ Footballers Lose

Our run of bad luck in finals continued last week. We played Carrignavar in Glenville in the Junior ‘B’ championship final on Saturday and lost once more by a single point, 1-4 to 0-6. Conditions of high wind made scoring very difficult with each team scoring just a single point in the first half. Both sides had wides but we missed two or three very good scoring opportunities. An early Alan O’Keeffe point doubled our tally. Carrignavar however then scored 1-2 without reply to lead by 1-3 to 0-2. We fought back, points from frees by sub Shane Murphy and Mark O’Connell brought the margin to two points. Brian Murphy had a late point to leave the minimum between the sides. We fought to get an equalizer but time ran out and so we lost our fifth major final in 8 weeks.

Team: Vincent O’Keeffe, Alan Broderick, Batt O’Connell, Barry Murphy, Padraig O’Brien (Capt), Mike Hogan, Mark O’Connell, Kieran Manley, Brian Murphy, Tomas Kearney, Gavin O’Flynn, Michael Collins, Daniel Dooley, Alan O’Keeffe, John O’Dowd.

Subs: Garry Prendergast, Jason Campbell.

LATEST NEWS ON under 19 HURLING.

Our game v Owen Gaels is now gone back to  then end of November in Ballygarvan -and is still a 'Provisional' Fixture.

SHAMROCKS IN MUNSTER.

Best of luck to Shamrocks from Knockanore who face Castlemahon of Limerick in Feoghanagh on Saturday next in the Munster JFC. Shamrocks have a Golden Jubilee gathering on Saturday night of their 1972 County Junior Hurling winning team.
