REBEL OG UNDER 17 HURLING SHIELD FINAL.  Erins Own 3 11 Bride Rovers 1-10.
Last Friday evening as our Junior Footballers travelled to Killeagh our Minor(u17) hurlers travelled to Riverstown to take on Erins Own in the Premier 2 Shield Final.  While  the scoreline reflects a one sided game this certainly wasn’t the case.  A losing margin of seven points didn’t do justice to the lads second half performance. The game was played in glorious sunshine on an excellent pitch.
We started the match horrendously slow and after ten  minutes we were 1-5 to 0-01 down.  We struggled to find our stride. Losing Kieran to injury so early in the game didn’t help. We eventually got into the game big time. We got some great points from Denis and Ben(2). Our defence tightened up notably, only conceding 1 more point for the rest of the half.  At the break Erins Own led by 1-6 to 0-4 and we were still in the game.
A few positional changes made a big difference and now were playing well with a championship tempo game in progress. A few points from each team had the score at 1-10 to 0-9. Then  after great work from Denis who played a great ball to Cormac Barry, he took his man on and a gave perfect pass to Cameron who finished high into the net.  Ten minutes left and now it really was game on. Then came a crucial decision which had a huge bearing on the result. Everyone in attendance was surprised when Tomas was blatantly fouled but no penalty was given. The sliotar went straight up the other end and a very soft penalty for Erins Own was awarded but  Ronan made an excellent save.
Game on again. Disaster struck when Erins Own got a goal with five minutes left. It sucked the confidence out of the lads. It was a great second half from our lads which the scoreline did not reflect. Well done to Erin’s Own thanks to Sarsfield for providing a fabulous playing surface. Panel; Ronan, Eldon, Ada, Cillian, Luke, Denis, Kieran, Ben, Jack, Ryan, Cillian, Cormac, Kamso. Cameron. Cormac. Colin. Tomas. Connor Ciaran. Gearoid.
Gearoid O Connell and we were missing Louie, Oran and Darragh because of holidays. This Friday night coming we have Rebel Og under17 East Division 2 Football Championship
Bride Rovers v Fr O Neills in Rathcormac at 7pm.

ML. O CONNOR MOTOR FACTORS JUNIOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

The Junior Footballers played their second game of the round robin series against Aghada on Friday evening knowing that anything less than a win would potentially result in them departing the championship. The game was played in Pairc Ui Chinneide in Killeagh on a beautiful evening. This was a tight game throughout and the Rovers never say die spirit and battling qualities saw them come through to win on a scoreline of 10points to 1-06. The Rovers played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the opening 30minutes and went in at half time leading 0-06 points to 0-04. The second half was similar to the first half with neither side giving up possession easily however with 10 minutes remaining Aghada struck for goal to take the lead and this is when the lads had to dig deep. The closing 10 minutes saw the Rovers running at Aghada and eventually getting their just rewards kicking the last two points to win by the closest of margins. The final game in the round robin series sees the Rovers up against Glenbower on Thursday night at 8pm in Lisgoold knowing that a win is required to remain in the championship. The team and scorers from Friday's win was: Stephen Glasgow, Kieran Kearney, Shane O'Connor, Jason Mannix (Capt.), Eoin Roche, Shane Walsh, Paddy O'Flynn (0-01), Liam Forde, Cian Hogan (0-01), Daniel Dooley (0-01), DJ Cahill, Conor Barry (0-05), Damien Buckley, Adam Walsh (0-01), William Finnegan (0-01), Ben Hogan, Cillian Tobin, David Barry, Edmund Cashman, Jack Connor, Jamie Barry, John O'Sullivan, Josh Ahern, Paul Larkin, Ronan O'Connell, Seamus Ahern and Tadhg O'Sullivan.

UNDER 13s’ AT THE SEASIDE-TWICE!

The under13 Green team had two trips to Youghal in the past fortnight to play the seasiders in Football and Hurling. These games were always going to be a challenge for the lads as they had travelled to Youghal twice during the league grading section and had come away with victories on both of those occasions. Football was first up this time round and the lads came away with a draw on a scoreline of 2-04 to 2-04. The Rovers were one point up 8 minutes into added time and Youghal were awarded a number of frees from deep in their defence right  up to the 13metre line to kick the last score of the game to equalise. There are two remaining games for the lads in the Premier 2 football league and they will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend with a home game against Kinsale on Saturday 16th July next at 12.15pm in Pairc Na Bhride.

The Green team hurlers were away to Youghal on Sunday last in the pen-ultimate game of the Premier 1 Hurling League. Coming off the back of two victories in their previous two league games, the lads were brought back to ground with Youghal taking the spoils on this occasion on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-06. The lads play their final game of this league at home in Pairc Na Bhride on Saturday 25th July at 8pm against St. Finbarrs. This will be a tough challenge for the boys as St. Finbarrs are yet to lose a game in the league but there is no doubt that they will give it their all.

The Gold team hurlers had their opening game of the C3 league away to Blackrock. Having been heavily defeated by the same opposition in the grading section, it was a surprise to see that both teams ended up in the same grade again however the lads gave a good account of themselves on the night and will look forward to their next game which will be at home against Sarsfields on the 21st July.

The Gold team are out in football this week with their opening game in the C3 football league at home to Douglas on Thursday 14th July next at 8pm in the Juvenile pitch.

UNDER 15’s WIN FINAL.

Bride Rovers under 15 hurlers played their Division 1 shield final on Wednesday night 6th July v Donoughmore in a neutral venue, Glanworth. This was the second time playing Donoughmore in the space of two weeks, we previously played them in the league qualifier which ended up in a draw. We were looking forward to another good game. On the night we played really well and led at half time 2-8 to 0-6 thanks to two great goals from our captain Jack Mannix. We kept tipping over points in the second half and the score line finished up 2-15 to 0-12 in our favour . We would like to thank Donoughmore for another sporting game and we wish them well in the championship. This was the first time that Imokilly and Muskerry teams played in a North Cork final. We are now looking forward to the championship when we will be away to Youghal in the first round on the 20th July.  Many thanks to Glanworth for the pitch on the night and for Denis Twomey for organising the game on the night. We would also like to thank our sponsors East Cork Fireplaces and ID Sports. After the Final Patsy O Mahony, on behalf of Rebel Og North, presented the Shield to our winning Captain Jack Mannix. Well done lads on a mighty win.

ALL IRELAND HURLING FINAL.

So strange isn’t it- next Sunday July 17th and it’s All Ireland Hurling Final Day. I’ve asked many, many GAA people in recent weeks about the Finals in July and truthfully I can state not one single person agreed with this madness. For over a century September was the month for the hurling and football Finals. There was always great excitement in the National Schools in the Four Counties involved in the build-up, now every school in the country is closed. The GAA is supposed to promote and foster our games yet it’s still €90 next Sunday in Dublin, for just one match- crazy. Limerick are seeking a three in a row and Kilkenny are determined to stop them. We have plenty Limerick and Kilkenny men in our Club and we wish them all the best next Sunday. The only Cork involvement is the referee and we wish Colm Lyons of Nemo Rangers all the very best. Oh yes, Colm, one bit of advice -don’t rely on Hawkeye!

CAR BOOT SALE.

While the sporting eyes of many will be on Croke Park, well for 70 minutes at least, much attention here locally will focus on the Car Boot Sale for the parish Development Fund. GAA Club Members that can give an hour or two anytime from 7am on Sunday morning are asked to contact Billy or Mossy. Items for the Parish Stall will be accepted on Sunday morning.

CUL CAMP.

LATE NEWS; Sadly we have to report the death of one of our greatest supporters. Sr. Antonia (Peggy) Murphy formerly of Raheen, Kildinan has died unexpectedly. From a family whose involvement with Gaelic Games pre-dates the founding of the GAA Peggy was an ardent and passionate follower of Bride Rovers. We will sorely miss her. We extend our deepest sympathy to her brothers Sean and Paudie, her sister Eilish and the extended Murphy family and to the Presentation Sisters. See RIP for Funeral arrangements. May Peggy rest in peace.
