Scrap Saturday..
We have organised a Scrap Metal Collection for this coming Saturday May 28th. We will be accepting material at two collection points, one in Rathcormac and one in Bartlemy. Material can be dropped from Thursday evening until Saturday at 11 o clock. We are requesting those who have bicycles, gates, barrels, old feeding troughs, broken metal toys, galvanise, obsolete farm implements, batteries -basically all types of metal to bring the scrap for collection. Please ring John at 087 9538077 (Bartlemy area) or Tom at 086 8453364 (Rathcormac area). If people are unable to bring material themselves we will endeavour to arrange collection. For larger items such as cars old farm machinery we can arrange collection on site. The collection is for Scrap metal so no electrical goods are acceptable.
This Scrap Metal Collection is part of our ongoing Fundraising campaign for Club Development on our Pathway to 2028. Every piece of scrap metal is important so now’s the chance to get rid of material that’s been lying around for years. Please note that 11 o clock on Saturday morning is the very latest time for scrap to be dropped off.
JUNIORS PIPPED AT THE SEASIDE.
Our Junior Hurling team travelled to Coperalley in Youghal; last Thursday night for a Division 2 East Cork Junior HL tie. We started the game well with two points from Jesse within the opening minute. We were always a point or two up in the first half but the decisive score came to the seasiders. Youghal got a gaol before the break from a 21-yard free. They held onto a narrow margin for all the second half and it was score for score but we couldn't get level despite a great effort. Final score Youghal 1 15 Bride Rovers 0 16

LOTTO.
On last Tuesday week May 17th the Weekly Lotto Jackpot was a massive €20,400. The four numbers drawn were 5,1116 and 22 and there was no winner. The Lucky Dip winners who each won €30 were Kathleen Gowen, Rathcormac, P O’Brien, Riversdale, Pat Kelleher, Cobh, Mary Cotter, Quaker Rd. Cork City, Aidan Collins, Mullentoura. First League Win for Seniors
Our senior hurlers recorded their first win in the Red FM sponsored Cork County Senior Hurling league against a tough Ballymartle outfit on Saturday night last in Pairc na Bride, Rathcormac. A fine crowd was present for the game between two sides who will be meeting in the Group Stages of the Championship in about ten weeks time A typical goal poachers goal was the decider factor when substitute Ed Cashman latched onto a knock down by Michael Collins to finish the ball to the net and put the Rovers in front.
The early exchanges were tough with the defensive units from both sides on top. Many of the scores coming from placed balls. By half time Ballymartle with the aid of the wind led 0-9 to 0-06, eight of the Ballymartle points coming from frees. The Rovers points were scored by William Finnegan (0-3, 2 frees), Adam Walsh and Conor Barry.
The Carrigdhoun side started the second half the better and extended their lead to 6 points but showing great composure the Rovers started to reduce the deficit. The scores started to come with points from Shane O Connor, Kieran Kearney, Conor Barry and Paddy O Flynn. The Rovers defence was getting on top too with Adrian Buckley dominating at full back with some impressive clearances. With the lead down to two points and less than five minutes lerft, the introduction of Michael Collins and Ed Cashman had an immediate effect. A long ball into the Ballymartle square was knocked down by Michael for Ed Cashman to sweep to the net. Moments later another long ball was doubled on by Michael for a massive point to put the Rovers in front. Ballymartle replied with a pointed free but a fine long range point from Davy Barry extended the Rovers lead to a safe four. Final score Bride Rovers 1-14 Ballymartle 0-13

CORK V LOUTH.
The Draw for he Inter County Senior Football Qualifiers was made on Monday morning last. For the first time since 2007 Cork will meet Louth in the SFC. Back then Cork beat the Wee County by 0 16 to 0 14 in O Moore Park, Portlaoise. I was at the game -the first time I ever met Mickey Harte and he’s now Louth manager. I was in that summer of 2007 that brilliant singer and footballer Dermot O Brien died. O Brien captained Louth when they beat Cork in the 1957 Senior All Ireland Final. In a glittering showbiz career Dermot had many hits including The Merry Ploughboy, The Galway Shawl and The Turfman From Ardee. Corner back on the Cork team that day in Portlaoise in 2007 was the late, great Kieran O Connor from Aghada.. The Cork v Louth game is down for Decision in Pairc Ui Chaomh at 2 o lock on Saturday June 4th
CUL CAMP 2022.
Exciting news about our 2022 Cul Camp . It will start on Monday July 25th and go on until the following Friday. Booking for places opened recently and quicker than any Concert in Pairc Ui Chaoimh or Croke Park it booked out completely.
Under10 Report
Our under10s travelled to Ballincollig on Saturday last to play the home team in football. Our lads came across some great players for the opposition team but equally, the home side were met with a Tour De Force from Bride Rovers as our lads proved more than a match for a team who boasts large numbers and terrific facilities it must be said. It’s great for our lads to be playing teams like Ballincollig as contests like these are superb challenges.

UNDER11’s BUSY.
On Saturday last the under11’s hosted Bishopstown and Shanbally . The three club each fielded two teams. It was an early start at 10am with three football games played by all six teams .It was a great morning with fantastic skills demonstrated by all the players. The under11 team will continue to train on Wednesday 6-7pm in the Juvenile pitch .
REBELS RISING IN SEMPLE STADIUM.
What a difference a few weeks make. Twice in the last six weeks the Cork Senior Hurling team and fans had left Tom Semple’s famous Thurles Hurling Field in downcast mood. Heavy defeats in the National Hurling League Final against Waterford and a second shocker v Clare in the Munster Championship left Rebels in Rueful Reflection. It seemed our Field of Dreams was fast becoming a Field of Nightmares. All that was banished in stylish fashion last Sunday. Despite giving Tipp an early six point advantage Cork took complete control and inflicted the third heaviest ever championship defeat on the Premier County. With Cork supporters outnumbering the home fans by about ten to one the Rebel team on the field were superb. From the silken skills of Conor Lehane, the masterful defending of Niall O Leary and Ciaran Joyce to the goal hungry Alan Connolly Cork were awesome. maybe Tipperary were off the pace but that doesn’t take from Corks superb win. Well done lads and well done Kieran Kingston & Co for making the tactical changes which worked a treat. So now on the weekend of June 11th /12th it’s off to Kerry or maybe the Glens of Antrim. Kerry face Antrim in the Joe McDonagh Cup Final with the Finalists then taking on Cork and Wexford in what are termed ‘preliminary’ Quarter Finals. The draw sees that Cork will face the McDonagh Cup winners while the Model County will meet the runners up. Both Cork and Wexford will be ‘away’ for these matches. The match programme last Sunday carried an article on Bride Rovers Club Development plans on our Pathway To 2028.
BARTLEMY IN SCIATH NA SCOIL FINAL.
Well done to the young hurlers of Bishop O Brien NS, Bartlemy who defeated Glenville last week in there Sciath na Scoil semi final. Bartlemy now go on to face Leamlara in the Final. So it’s off to the Astro in Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the Final which will be played on Wednesday week June 8th at 12 noon. Best of luck to all involved.
CAR BOOT SALE.
Last Sunday in Rathcormac was Car boot sale day. A huge crowd was present. Thanks to those who helped with the Sale and also selling our Club Lotto Tickets.. Well done and congratulations to the Rathcormac Scouting Unit who mark 40 years in existence this year. On Saturday they have a Fun Day where everyone is invited along for a great family day out.
