Minors great display...

Rebel Og Premier 2 Minor Hurling Championship   Bride Rovers 5-13  Inniscarra 0-12
On Wednesday last we travelled to Delaneys GAA pitch in Kilbarry to play the first round of Minor Championship against Mid Cork side Inniscarra..
We were without John Buckley - out through injury, and hoping that tiredness wouldn’t catch up with Paddy, Kieran and Shaun who had played in the Senior Championship v Douglas just four days previously. We decided to play against the wind, which was blowing straight down the field. David Daly from Brian Dillons was the man in charge of the whistle. . We opened the scoring and competed well all over the field initially. We faded somewhat after an opening burst and Inniscarra who were getting scores from frees from all angles soon led 8 points to 3. We tacked on two points and then Edmond won a great ball and headed goal-ward. He was fouled - penalty. The goal-keeper made a great save with Paddy putting over the resulting 65. Then came two big scores. Adam Walsh grabbing a great ball from the air and blasting the ball to the net. Edmond then received a super pass from Cian and scored our second goal. Our backs were outstanding in the first half. Oisin doing a great job full back and Matt doing a man marking job on their danger man. It was eight scores apiece at the break but we led by 2-06 to 0-8. Dave Barry was outstanding in keeping a clean sheet. They say you have to be half mad to play in goal -ell you can add clever and courageous to that with our young custodian.
For the second half Inniscarra started strong but some wayward shooting let them down. Our lads were on target again and again. Great scores from Kieran, Paddy,Cian and Edmond helped us into a commanding lead. Ruairi playing Centre forward for the first time was typical a 'old style' Centre forward - hard and fair. Seamus was picking up ball and giving our full forward line great supply This led to Adam getting two more goals. Tomas, Jacob and Michael we’re giving Inniscarra forwards no room. Further points came from Craig, Paddy, &and Shaun and a goal from our commanding Centre Back Paddy. Subs Cillian, Connor and Nicky all contributed when introduced and Cillian unlucky to have a goal disallowed.
A great result for a dedicated bunch of young men. Thanks to all who came out to support the team.
We will play Valley Rovers in the winners round to be played on 10 July.

JUVENILE CLUB EASTER CAMP.

Bride Rovers Juvenile GAA held their first Easter Camp on Friday and Saturday last. 84 boys and girls from our U8 to U11 teams attended in what was a very positive and well run camp. The main objectives were to focus on the core skills of hurling & football and also “FUN”. The weather was always going to have a major impact on the camp but the elements by and large stayed dry…..the only Storm Hannah on show thankfully was Hannah O’Driscoll! But our decision to have an ice cream van on the Friday certainly paid off as the rain just arrived at 12:20 on Saturday to formally close our camp! The pitch and dressing rooms were immaculate so thanks to John Murphy, Denis Ahern and martin McHugh.

Many thanks to the organisers and main coaches of the two days…Brian Murphy, Donnacha Carr, Joe Delaney and Jerome O’Driscoll. Our Cul Camp co-ordinator from last year Jammy Barry also took time from his day job as part of the senior team backroom management team to help! Also thanks to our chairman Mark O’Connell who was on hand for the duration of the camp.

Special thanks to Kate O’Driscoll and Ann Marie Knox who helped with registration and keeping the coaches in line!!

But perhaps the stars of the show were the 19 teenagers that acted as assistant coaches for the 2 days. These lads & lassies will be part of our core coaching group for Cul Camp and going by last week we should have a great summer camp.

This camp will also help us going forward as we strive to aim for the Silver Benchmarking Award.. U10 boys hurling training will continue this Wednesday night at 6:30 in Scannell's field. No match for this age group this bank holiday weekend.

Under 12 Hurling League.

We travelled to Carrigtwohill last Saturday to take on the home side in the League. We had a good win on a scoreline of 3 11 t 3 1. It seemed a very easy win but in fairness to Carrig they were well in the match until the second half.

SENIORS GO TOP OF LEAGUE.

Our Senior Hurlers went top of Division 1 of the County Hurling League on Sunday evening. A win over Ballymartle in Pairc na Bride was a great result after the Championship defeat to Douglas. It was a high scoring game on Sunday. With five minutes to go until the final whistle we were ahead by 2 15 to 1  15. Then Ballymartle got four points on the trot to go a point ahead well into injury time. It looked as though the game was gone from us. Then when we needed a point to draw the contest …or a goal to win, who produced the goods? Yes, Barry Johnson got a superb goal as he has done so often for us over the years. It was in the 36th minute and we won by 3 15 to 1 19. Barry scored our first goal from a penalty in the opening half and Brian Roche got our second green flag in the 22nd minute of the second half. A great win, well done lads on a spirited display.

Team; S. Knox, T. O Sullivan, L.Forde, M. Liddane, C. Ryan, P.O Flynn, S. Walsh, S. O Connor, D. Buckley, W. Finnegan, E. Roche, R. Prendergast, C. Barry, M. Collins, B, Johnson, B. Roche, J. Connor, S. Boyce, S. Pratt, C. Howard. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to our Senior Captain Jason Pratt after the serious hand injury he suffered v Douglas. We are down to play Erins Own on Sunday next in the HL, at home.

WELL DONE NEIGHBOURS.

Well done to Watergrasshill, Castlelyons, Fermoy  and Kilworth on their fine wins recently in the Co PIHC.

POSTPONED. Our County u21 FC game v Ballycastle Gaels was deferred from last weekend. The game is now down for decision on May 11th.

RACES OR HURLING?

Sunday week presents a huge dilemma for many sports fans in the parish. Bartlemy Point to Point Races are being held that afternoon and this historic meeting is a kind of Sporting, Cultural and Social event each year for local people. Even for those not interested in the slightest in matters equine it's a special day out. Unfortunately this year it clashes with a hurling game -Cork V Tipperary 'in the park', an unfortunate clash surely.
