Under 14's Win County League...

At Pairc Liam MacCarthaigh in Ballygarvan our under 14 hurling team made Club History when they captured the Cork Premier 1 league Title. This is the first ever Title at the top grade for our club. If any team deserved this victory it was this Under 14 hurling team. In last Sunday's final we defeated St Finbarrs and over the last two seasons we've had marvellous games against the Barrs. In the 2017 Under 13 League semi final, the 2018 County Feile Final and the 2018 County Championship semi final we met the team from Togher and on each of those occasions St Finbarrs came out in top. That was the backdrop to last Sunday's Final then -we had overcome Midleton in the league semi final while the Barrs beat Ballincollig in their semi.

The city side had the advantage of a stiffish breeze in the first half on Sunday but our  defence was superbly marshalled by Liam Collins on the edge of the square. St. Finbarrs were very reliant n their star player William Buckley for scores and he contributed all their first half scores, three points from frees and one from play just before half time. With our backs defending tightly it was a very close and tight game. Adam Walsh raised two white flags from frees and added a third from play to leave St. Finbarrs ahead by 0 4 to 0 3 at half time. Our halfback line of Nicky, Conor and Ronan were superb and Cormac  and   Denis combined well with Liam in the inside line of defence. David Barry picked up the Barrs danger man Buckley and the Rovers grew into the contest in the second half. Adam Walsh was repeatedly fouled but Adam Hayes duly slotted over the resultant frees.  It was 0 4 apiece when Josh Ahern at full forward scored a brilliant opportunist goal, this score really lifted our lads. Buckley got a point back for the Barrs but this was their last score. Bride Rovers began to dominate all over the pitch. Cillian Tobin ran everywhere and helped out in defence and attack. At centre forward Adam Walsh was a powerhouse and the Barrys,  David and Cillian were everywhere. Adam Hayes pointed 7 frees in the second half -a fantastic return. Inside Ryan worked hard and was blocked down for two goals while Josh and Louis worked tirelessly causing major problems for the Barrs backs. Ben Knox hit a superb point when he came on and Eldon played his parting a historic win. Well done to young Jack Keating who was on the panel. This was a well deserved win, a decisive win for the hungrier team who wanted it most. The names on the Cork Premier 1 Under 14 Hurling League Cup already were Blackrock, Na Piarsaigh, Sarsfields and Midleton and now the name Bride Rovers will be added. To win a League in any grade at any age level is tough , it demands consistency over a long period of time. We started our campaign with a 5 14 to 1 3 win over Ballygarvan on April 11th. Next up was a 4 10 to 3 7 win over Ballincollig followed by a 4 15 to 3 7 victory over Mallow. We left the League points v St Finbarrs go on the Championship game which we lost. A 3 18 to 4 14 win v Na Piarsaigh was followed by 5 16 to 1 15 win over Midleton. We got a walk over from Douglas. In October we defeated Midleton by 4 10 to 3 7 in the semi final. It's been a long campaign so thanks to all the players, mentors, parents and supporters.

The team that has brought the first ever Premier 1 Title to Bride Rovers is Frank O Flynn, Cormac O Sullivan, Liam Collins, Denis Cashman, Nicky Kelleher, Conor Hazelwood, David Barry,  Ronan O Connell, Cillian Tobin,  Adam Walsh. Adam Hayes, Ryan O Callaghan, Cillian Barry, Louis Roche, Josh Ahern, Ben Knox, Eldon O Connor, Jack Keating. There was great jubilation after the final whistle and when proud team captain Adam Hayes received the County Cup. It was back to Rathcormac then before journeying to Fermoy later for grub. Later on Sunday evening we took the Cup up to Joe Barry in CUH, Joe was thrilled with the win and we all join in wishing Joe a speedy recovery. On Sunday the team and mentors looked brilliant in their beautiful new Bride Rovers top, specially designed for the County Final.
