BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.
ANYONE FOR SCOR?
Scór is a GAA competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the social/fun element of Ireland's traditional past-times. The competition was established by the GAA in 1969 with the aim of promoting Ireland's traditional pastimes and culture while offering club members the chance to meet up, have fun and represent their club during the winter months while Football and Hurling had ceased.
There are seven events/disciplines in Scór that cover all aspects of Irish culture: Figure/Céilí Dancing, Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Recitation/Scéalaíocht, Nuachleas/Novelty Act, Instrumental Music, and Set Dancing.
Unfortunately the popularity of the Scor competitions have decreased in recent years. Many reasons have been given for this but the almost all year round games programme now means that a ‘closed season’ no longer exists. In Bride Rovers down through the years we’ve had many notable successes in Scor and some great fun and craic too. We are now appealing to anyone interested in any of the Scor items -if you would like to take part and represent our Club please contact us. Ring 0868602301, 0868350741 or 087 9538077. If we get a positive response we will have an Entry in this year’s East Cork Competition on February 15th. Go raibh maith agaibh.

U21 FOOTBALL
A draw and a loss for U21 footballers, but plenty of experience gained.
Last Friday and on Bank Holiday Monday saw us play away to Midleton and Fr. O'Neill's respectively. The game conditions ranged from a crisp, still night on a 4G surface in Midleton to a windy and bitterly cold afternoon in a heavier Aghavine.
It was great to see such a high number of players available and willing to play, and many benefitted prior from two night of football training on the astro, and two nights of boxercise and physical conditioning in Bartlemy Hall across January. Importantly, the game saw last year's senior hurlers like Denis Cashman and Louis Roche, and juniors like Cillian Barry and Kieran Cotter finally get a chance to try out the new rules and become dual adult players representing their club at the much changed and faster game. They have joined the unavailable Cormac Barry and Conor O'Riordan in this regard.

A plethora of minor players - Jack Lynch, Shane O'Dowd, and Mattie Kenny, Gary Quirke, Darragh O'Farrell and Adam Kelleher as goalkeeper all showed up well and this bodes well for adult level in the coming years also.
The team was backboned by last year's junior footballers - Ronan O'Riordan, Ciaran O'Dowd, Adam Hynes, Cillian O'Sullivan, Ryan O’Callaghan, Gearoid Gubbins and allowed last year's fringe junior players Eldon O'Connor and Oran Kielty to get more game time again.
The two games also enabled Ronan Barry and Gearóid O'Connell showcase their ability in the back line, Cillian Barry and Shane Prendergast in the middle third, as well as Rudi Gharib and Seán Dowling up front.
Importantly, the two games taught us lessons regarding the physicality needed at adult level, as well as the need to stay switched on, react well and fast on the whistle, contest every ball as well as keep possession as a priority. However, having said all that, there were some nice passages of play when we were composed on the ball and used space and movement well.
The final scores were Midleton 4.09 Bride Rovers 4.09, and then Fr O'Neills 3.09 Bride Rovers 1 2.
The Development League will conclude with a home fixture against Glenville next Saturday 7th Feb at 2pm in Pynes. We wish a quick recovery to Adam Hynes and Shane O'Dowd who picked up hand injuries against Fr O'Neill's.
The panel of 22 players who featured to date in the competition were...

SECOND NHL WIN FOR CORK.
At a wild and windy Salthill on Saturday night Cork collected their second pair of points in the 2026 NHL. Well done to Eoin and Brian Roche who contributed to Cork's away Senior win. Cork trailed by seven points at one stage but finished very well. That victory sets up a Top of The Table Clash in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday night next. It’s a repeat of last year’s All Ireland Final when Tipperary come to town for a half 7 throw in under the brilliant lights of the Park. With 20,000 at the Waterford game we can expect close on 40,000 for this clash of Munster’s greatest rivals.
CLUB MEETING.
Our next Club Meeting is on next Monday February the 9th in the Clubrooms.
IMOKILLY SENIOR FOOTBALL TEAM.
Ben Hogan has been selected to feature for Imokilly Senior Footballers across the coming weeks and months. Ben had proven to be an incredible goalkeeper with Bride Rovers. His commanding presence, communication and shot-stopping skill now allow him to advance to a higher representative level. Ben, brother of Senior hurling goalkeeper Cian, also is an experienced soccer goalkeeper.
Following a number of trial games in January, a first team squad has been established. They were in action against MTU on Wednesday evening of this week in the MTU grounds.
Two other club players Adam Hynes and Liam Collins have also secured paces on the Imokilly Senior Football Development squad, and will have ample opportunities to gain experience and secure a first team squad place in time. Imokilly did not field a football team in the Cork Senior Championship in 2025 so a being effort is being put in this year.
Well done to Ben, Adam and Liam on their achievement.
