Secretary's Report to AGM.. - 24/11/2014
A Chairde Gael,Welcome to the 2014 Annual General Meeting of the Bride Rovers GAA Club. Itâs my privilege to report on the activities of the Club for the past 12 months.
This year saw many successes and challenges throughout the year. These include:
· Consolidating our place as a senior hurling club for the 11th successive year
· The Success of our fundraising night at the dogs which raised over â¬30,0000
· The continual progression of phase 2 of the Club Development.
· The huge successes of both the Juvenile and Ladies teams in 2013.
· Senior Ladies reaching the county Final.
· U14 Boys reaching the Premier 2 county County Final.
· Junior B Footballers winning the East Cork title beating Castlelyons
· Junior C hurlers reaching the East Cork Final.
· Receiving a very generous financial donation from Cavanaghâs of Fermoy
· Grace Kearney, Eleanor Ahern, and Jennifer Barry winning All-Ireland Senior football medals.
· Ger Lane receiving his nomination for the position of Chairman of the Cork County Board

SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
For the third time in six years we were paired against Carrigtwhoill in the Senior Hurling Championship. The Match was fixed for May 31st in Riverstown Despite a brave second half display we were left with too much to ending up on the losing side on a score line of 2-13 to 1-21. Our second round draw could not have being any tougher it was county championship favourites Sarsfields, it was played on the 6th of June in Pairc Ui Rinn. The task was made no easier when we were put down to 14 men at an early stage Despite the best efforts of the lads Sars ran out easy winners on a score line of 2-25 to 0-15. Our third round relegation / Semi Final paired us against Courcey Rovers, and it was back to Pairc ui rinn on July 27th. A poor first half performance and an injury to our captain Michael Collins, meant by half time our backs were to the wall. A strong finish in the last ten minutes and a late penalty from Barry Johnson brought the game to extra time. With Courceyâs down to 13 men; meaning we rallied further seeing us running out eventual winners on a score line of 3-14 to 0-19. Victory against Courceyâs saw us drawn against Na Piarsaigh in the fourth round, and it was back to Pairc Ui Rinn for the third occasion of the year on the 18th of August. It was a game where we never really hit the ground running. Another late rally brought us within 3 points of Na Piarsaigh, however it was not to be enough on this occasion; seeing us defeated on a score line of 0-18 to 2-9.

This was the third year that we have competed in Division 1 of the Avondhu / Imokilly Junior Hurling League having gained promotion in 2011. This was a great opportunity to play competitive games against teams from both East and North Cork. We played 9 games, won 2, drew 1and lost 6 finishing us in 8th place as a result we have being relegated from division 1 and will now play in the East Cork section in 2015

East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship 2014
Our first round of the JAHC saw us matched against Cobh in Lisgoold, on the 1st of July. Our slow start was to once again cost us and the game finished up on a sore line of Cobh 1-14 Bride Rovers 1-13. Our second round / back door clash saw us draw near rivals Lisgoold. The venue this time was Riverstown, on Thursday July 7th Despite a very decent performance, which was not helped by the fact that we were put down to 13 men, we were defeated in the end on a score line of 1-23 to 0-16

EAST CORK JUNIOR C HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
For the second year running we were drawn against Killeaghâs third team and for the second year in a row we received a walk-over from them. The game was due to take place in Dungourney on Monday August 18th however due to Killeaghâs lack of numbers we received a Bie, and were straight into the Semi-Final to face Midleton, who had won the competition on the previous 3 occasions. The game was fixed for Caherlag on Wednesday September 10th. A Cracking contest prevailed, and our lads who had become known as the Holy Terrors, ran out winners on a score line 4-11 to 3 -12. For our third team to reach an East Cork Final was a wonderful achievement, however there was to be no fairy tale ending, with the lads losing out to Russell Rovers in the final on a score line of 2-11 to 1-11 on September 20th in Dungourney.

The clubs main adult football team was again graded B having decided to re-grade in 2013. This allowed us to enter three different Competitions. We were entered into Division 2 Of the East Cork Football League, THE County Junior B Football Championship, and the Junior B East Cork Championship.

County Junior B Football Championship
For the second year in a row it was decided by the club to enter a team into the Junior B County football championship. This competition allows entrants whose first football team are competing at B grade in their division. Our run in the competition saw victories over Abbey Rovers, Ballyhooly and Whitechurch, eventually being defeated by Killmeen at the Semi Final stage.

Huge Credit must go to the Junior football management team of Vince Cronin, Pat Murphy, Daniel Lane, and Shane OâConnor; for brining home the only piece of silverware at adult level this year. As we all know field football team has being a struggle in the past few years, but this yearâs management must be given major praise for brining the pride back into playing football for Bride Rovers again.

We were drawn against Castlelyons in the U21 football, despite putting a few good weeks training in January/ February, we were completely outclassed on the night losing heavily.

Bride Rovers Juvenile Club Report
The 2014 season proved to be a season that will never be forgotten. Our u6's travelled and took part in big numbers to many blitzes. Our u7's and u8's played several tournaments and family fun days including our own blitz where both u7's and u8's became victorious on the day for the first time in history of club both winning cup and shield in same year. Our u10's also had a very productive year only loosing once to Ballygunner in Ballyduff blitz. The u11's played very well also and got to 2 hurling finals and the u12's only participated in football as this team was a very young team consisting mainly of u10's but played very well considering. Our u14's made history in the club with the challenging role of playing Premier 2 Hurling, they went in as under dogs and shocked a number of clubs progressing all the way to County final and unfortunately became unsuccessful for the title but this did not dishearten them as they continued to play their league and have now also progressed to league final. In Football they played A grade and got to semi finals in championship and finished second in their league. Our u16's had a hard task in front of them this year in both hurling and football but never once got disheartened or gave up without a fight. With numbers tight sometimes it was stressful to get a team together but not impossible. Our minors also had a productive season playing hurling and football championship but unfortunately no success. They also qualified for hurling league final but became runners up. The Juvenile club would like to wish all the best to Juvenile teams and Senior team in 2015 season hopefully there will be plenty of more success.

Bride Rovers Ladies Football & Camogie Club

2014 was another hectic year for Bride Rovers Ladies Football and Camogie Club, made all the better by the great weather during the summer. Our youngest group were our U8s who had a great turnout all year. Our U10s put in a great effort, continuing to train weather permitting into November and a highlight of the year was the huge international U10 blitz at Passage West in September.Our U12s played camogie in the Go-Games blitzes and competed in the East Cork league in football. Our U14s competed at East Cork level in football and reached a county semi-final in camogie, losing to Sliabh Rua.We won camogie shields at U13 and also at U15 level during the summer period.The U16s played County B camogie, winning 2 rounds but losing a county quarter final to Cloughduv. We qualified for County B football, losing to Eire Og narrowly in the quarter final. We still have an East Cork U16B football league final to play against Aghada, a title we won last year. Our minor footballers are East Cork B champions after Midleton would not turn out for the final. We also qualified for County B football and lost in the quarter final to Bandon on a day when we were hit badly by injuries. We enjoyed minor D camogie league success in the spring but lost in the Minor D championship final to Newcestown later in the year. We fielded 2 adult football teams, which combined for many practice games during the summer, which worked extremely well for us. Our first team competed with the best sides in Cork and reached new heights when they captured the Senior B league title in May, beating Boherbue in the final. We subsequently reached the Senior B championship final, beating a fancied Eire Og side on the way, but disappointingly lost the decider to Donoughmore Our Junior football team performed very well also capturing the 13-a-side A league title on a fantastic evening against St Peters in Clondrohid. We also drew with Fermoy B in the championship group but the steady loss of players to our senior side told eventually and we lost out in the last round game to Erins Own.Our adult camogie team competed at Junior B level this year and won the county final with a great performance against Glen Rovers B at Castle Road. We now step up to Junior A where tougher opposition awaits but our panel has lots of potential and confidence is high that they will take this in their stride.At intercounty level, Grace Kearney, Eleanor Ahern and Jennifer Barry were on the Cork senior ladies football panel which captured the All-Ireland title number 9 this year beating Dublin in an unforgettable final. Grace Culloty won an U16A All-Ireland ladies football also against Dublin. We are very proud of all the girls.Finally, we wish to thank Bride Rovers GAA Club for all their help and support during the year and especially for access to the pitches at all times, even during busy periods. We could not have been treated better. Finally, we wish the senior club all the best for the AGM and for 2014 in general.

BRIAN BOWS OUT
After a decade on the Cork senior hurling panel, we heard the news this spring that Brian Murphy was to retire from senior inter-county hurling. Brian previously had a hugely successful underage career with Bride Rovers St Colmanâs and Cork. Over the past ten yearâs Brian established himself as the countryâs best corner back winning 2 All-Irelandâs, a young hurler of the year and two All-Stars. Brian let us take this opportunity to say how proud we all were of you at Bride Rovers, and we wish you and your family the very best for the future, and look forward to seeing you in the Green White and Gold for many years yet.
Well Done Ger
On Tuesday the 19th of November it was confirmed that Ger Lane was the only candidate nominated for the position of Chairman of the Cork County Board, this in effect has made Ger Chairman elect and he will be ratified at the boards convention on December 14th. To have one of our club members ascend to the highest office in Cork GAA is a huge honour for the club. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the club to congratulate Ger, and wish him and his family all the best in his new role.

Another busy year at Pairc na Bride. The main pitch continued to work at full capacity throughout the summer and Pynes pitch continued to work with the overflow. At the beginning of 2014 we received the good news that we had re-acquired a three year lease on Scanells field. Lights and polls were installed in Scanells and this proved to be hugely beneficial to the club especially in January and February where all our teams could still train at full capacity, while maintaining the main pitch at a time when the weather proves to be unpredictable. Special word of thanks to the Pyne and Scannell families who continue to provide us with these facilities.
2014 saw the club host many big championship games, which is always an honour; these included the first round of the IPHC between Watergrasshill and Castlelyons, on June 1st and the IFC between Glanworth and Cloyne, as well as numerous East Cork Championship games. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who give up their free time and help at these games.
On behalf of the Club I want to extend sincere thanks to our Grounds Officer John Murphy, the Field Committee as well as Tuas employees Gavin Walsh and Jamie Heffernan. They continue to maintain and develop the facilities of our club and do so in their free time.
In 2014, there was a huge increase in the use of our Astro-turf facility. This is available for hire by contacting James Birmingham. The pitch is suitable for 5-aside ground football and costs the small fee of â¬50 per hour with the lights.
This year also saw an increase in the use of our Gym facilities. Although we encourage people to use them, it is vital to put the weights back in their proper place after use to ensure that the Club room remains tidy. We also ask that the dressing rooms are locked after use and please Last out close the gates.
CAR BOOT SALE
Many thanks to all the people that helped out in the Car Boot sales over the past 12 months. This is an important way of returning the kind generosity shown to us by the Parish Development in the recent past and maintains our close links with the Parish development committee and the Community Council. A word of thanks to James Birmingham who continues to organise the rota for the Car Boot Sale. Anyone interested in helping out should give their names to the Club Chairman so that they can be added to the rota.

The club website, http://www.briderovers.ie, continues to go from strength to strength, with 46,000 pageviews between January and October 2014, an increase of 33% on the same period in 2013.The site has had visitors from 75 countries, as far away as Vietnam and the Philippines. Player profiles are the most popular section of the website, and one that we hope to improve further in 2015, followed by our gallery and news sections .Our History section has been added to this year, with match reports, segments of the Club History,â and Audio clips received from C103 .Material for the website can be submitted to myself at [gerardlanegaa@gmail.com]gerardlanegaa@gmail.com, and many thanks to all who have contributed this year.Our Twitter page, @BrideRoversGAA, recently passed the 1000-follower mark and is growing steadily.

SCOR
For the second year running the club had a very successful Scor campaign in the Leiriu section. The Leiriu is an act / sketch thats puts the emphasis on Irish History, culture and Mythology but can still have a comic content. 2013 saw our act reach the Munster final stage and 2014 saw the club make identical progress in the competition. The club made it through the East section, winning the county in Ovens in March for the second year running. The act then progressed through the Munster semi-final in Cappamore, then performing in the University of Limerick Concert hall in the Munster final, however progression through to the All-Ireland section was not to be, but once again it was a very enjoyable and successful campaign, and we look forward to taking part in Scor again in 2015. Well done to the cast: John Arnold Mossie OâSullivan, James Bermingham, Orla Arnold, Carol Marie Dooley, and Johnathon Brackett.

Congrats to Bishop O Brien NS Bartlemy who played Ballincurrig NS in Sciath na Scol Finals in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Tuesday November 18th and came away with victory on a 1-6 to 0-3 scorline Congrats to all involved.

CLUB LOTTO
Funds raised every week by our Lotto Sellers are vital for the day to day running of the Club. The huge effort put in every week by our Lotto sellers is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to Vincent Frawley from Fermoy who scooped the Jackpot of â¬12,600 in February and well done to our own James Birmingham who claimed a Jackpot â¬5,000 in May. All drinks are on James on December 31st. Please support the Club Lotto as it is essential to the Clubâs day to day running and I would like to thank all our venues for hosting the Lotto on a weekly basis.
FUNDRAISING
At the Beginning of 2013 it was decided that the club needed to embark on a major fundraising drive in order to make up the shortfall that was required for phase two of our development. On December 26th last year the club organised a 5K fun Run. Despite the cold icy conditions and the fact that the route of the run had to be changed at the last minute, we had a good turnout; sponsorship cards were issued to all participants, and the event proved to be most enjoyable. Monies from this helps us to install lights in Scanells. In May we organised a scrap collection which took place over two weekends. The club received many kind donations of scrap and the event proved to be a success. Thanks to all those who donated. Thanks Tom Kearney Seamus Buckley and Billy Finnegan, who played a key role in transporting the scrap and thanks to the Ryan and Arnold Families who held the Scrap for us. In the summer the club provisionally booked a Fundraising night at the dogs at Curraheen Park for October 3rd. In September the club executive received a visit from the Managing Director of Curraheen Park Frank Oâ Mara, who took us through the ins and outs of what organising the night entailed, and from this point on we go to work. A Major drive to look for race sponsors, and add sponsors for the programme began. It was also decided that as a club we should call to every house in the parish in order to try and sell tickets. What happened over the next few weeks was phenomenal. The whole club pulled together and the effort and hours that people put in selling tickets and looking for sponsors will always be remembered by myself and my fellow officers. The night itself was a major success topped off by the memorable donkey derby Special mention to Dan Quill for the hours of work the put in. There was a great togetherness within in the club and the parish whist the organising of the night was took place. Special mention to all our ticket sellers, and to all those who bought tickets. Thanks to all those who sponsored races and adds on the night. Thanks to the Ladies and Juvenile clubs for the help they provided in the weeks leading up and on the night. Dan will later take you all through the financial outcomes of all our fundraising events in 2014 in his report.
Fermoy Print and Design
A word of thanks to Liam Barry and his staff at Fermoy Print and Design, Liam is always only a call away for me when I am requesting any printing needs for the club, He provides a first class service and is always most obliging. The hours of work Liam put in while designing and printing the programme for the night at the dogs were phenomenal, I want to take this opportunity to thank Liam, and wish him and his business all the best going forward.
Development Phase 2
At the end of 2012, the Club received an â¬80,000 Grant from the Sports Capital Grant Programme. This was followed by a donation of â¬20,000 from the Rathcormac Parish Development Fund, 2 County Council grants. Phase 2 of our development is similar to that of phase 1 in hat it is a 6 metre high hurling wall, with a 60x40 meter astro - turf facility During 2014 we have received the go ahead from our neighbours finalised the plans with our engineer and awarded the construction contract to our chosen contractors. The foundation for the wall has already being dug, and the Ryanâs are due in the coming weeks to begin construction of the wall. All paper work for the drawdown of the Sports Capital grant has being submitted. The project will be costing approx. two hundred thousand. If the grant is to be received, the development must be substantially completed by the end of January 2015.
The Rovers Return
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary since the reformation of the club in 1964. Although the club was officially founded in 1928, the club effectively with out of existence in 1961 due to a mix up with insurance resulting in no Bride Rovers teams being affiliated in 62 and 63. A great number of our players went to play with other local teams as they were entitled to do. On the 7th of December 1964 a meeting was held in Bartlemy Parish Hall with the purpose of re-organising the Bride Rovers Hurling and Football clubs the officers that were elected that night were:

Rathcormac Soc Init had an Outing to Wicklow on 11th of June with a full bus of 52 leaving the Village at 7.30 am. Breakfast was at the Horse & Hounds in New Ross. The Tour went on to Avoca, The Meeting of the Waters, and Glendalough. Back then to New Ross for dinner and home to Rathcormac by eleven pm or so.
Rathcormac Social Initiative Group had another very successful Outing to the Wicklow area on Thursday the 28th of August. This time we had to finish the tour we started in June when we never reached Powerscourt so interesting was the other areas in Wicklow that we stopped in. We left Rathcormac at 7.30am with a near full bus of 46 and headed up the main Dublin road to the Gandon Inn near Emo for an excellent Breakfast.
From there we headed for the cutlery Factory Shop of Newbridge, where we had a most interesting visit.
We then went on to Powerscourt House & Gardens. Luckily the weather was excellent and everybody was amazed & impressed by the magnificence & beauty of the Gardens.
We then continued on to the Powerscourt Waterfall which is a separate entity to the House & Gardens.
So we headed back on the bus to the Poitin Still in Rathcoole for an excellent 4 course Dinner.
We got back to Rathcormac in good spirits at about eleven pm and all agreed it was a great day out.

SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
For the third time in six years we were paired against Carrigtwhoill in the Senior Hurling Championship. The Match was fixed for May 31st in Riverstown Despite a brave second half display we were left with too much to ending up on the losing side on a score line of 2-13 to 1-21. Our second round draw could not have being any tougher it was county championship favourites Sarsfields, it was played on the 6th of June in Pairc Ui Rinn. The task was made no easier when we were put down to 14 men at an early stage Despite the best efforts of the lads Sars ran out easy winners on a score line of 2-25 to 0-15. Our third round relegation / Semi Final paired us against Courcey Rovers, and it was back to Pairc ui rinn on July 27th. A poor first half performance and an injury to our captain Michael Collins, meant by half time our backs were to the wall. A strong finish in the last ten minutes and a late penalty from Barry Johnson brought the game to extra time. With Courceyâs down to 13 men; meaning we rallied further seeing us running out eventual winners on a score line of 3-14 to 0-19. Victory against Courceyâs saw us drawn against Na Piarsaigh in the fourth round, and it was back to Pairc Ui Rinn for the third occasion of the year on the 18th of August. It was a game where we never really hit the ground running. Another late rally brought us within 3 points of Na Piarsaigh, however it was not to be enough on this occasion; seeing us defeated on a score line of 0-18 to 2-9.

Our slow start was to once again cost us and the game finished up on a sore line of Cobh 1-14 Bride Rovers 1-13. Our second round / back door clash saw us draw near rivals Lisgoold. EAST CORK JUNIOR C HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
For the second year running we were drawn against Killeaghâs third team and for the second year in a row we received a walk-over from them. The game was due to take place in Dungourney on Monday August 18th however due to Killeaghâs lack of numbers we received a Bie, and were straight into the Semi-Final to face Midleton, who had won the competition on the previous 3 occasions. The game was fixed for Caherlag on Wednesday September 10th. A Cracking contest prevailed, and our lads who had become known as the Holy Terrors, ran out winners on a score line 4-11 to 3 -12. For our third team to reach an East Cork Final was a wonderful achievement, however there was to be no fairy tale ending, with the lads losing out to Russell Rovers in the final on a score line of 2-11 to 1-11 on September 20th in Dungourney.

County Junior B Football Championship
For the second year in a row it was decided by the club to enter a team into the Junior B County football championship. This competition allows entrants whose first football team are competing at B grade in their division. Huge Credit must go to the Junior football management team of Vince Cronin, Pat Murphy, Daniel Lane, and Shane OâConnor; for brining home the only piece of silverware at adult level this year. As we all know field football team has being a struggle in the past few years, but this yearâs management must be given major praise for brining the pride back into playing football for Bride Rovers again.

Bride Rovers Juvenile Club Report
The 2014 season proved to be a season that will never be forgotten. Our u6's travelled and took part in big numbers to many blitzes. Our u7's and u8's played several tournaments and family fun days including our own blitz where both u7's and u8's became victorious on the day for the first time in history of club both winning cup and shield in same year. Our u10's also had a very productive year only loosing once to Ballygunner in Ballyduff blitz. The u11's played very well also and got to 2 hurling finals and the u12's only participated in football as this team was a very young team consisting mainly of u10's but played very well considering. Our u14's made history in the club with the challenging role of playing Premier 2 Hurling, they went in as under dogs and shocked a number of clubs progressing all the way to County final and unfortunately became unsuccessful for the title but this did not dishearten them as they continued to play their league and have now also progressed to league final. In Football they played A grade and got to semi finals in championship and finished second in their league. Our u16's had a hard task in front of them this year in both hurling and football but never once got disheartened or gave up without a fight. With numbers tight sometimes it was stressful to get a team together but not impossible. Our minors also had a productive season playing hurling and football championship but unfortunately no success. They also qualified for hurling league final but became runners up. The Juvenile club would like to wish all the best to Juvenile teams and Senior team in 2015 season hopefully there will be plenty of more success.

Bride Rovers Ladies Football & Camogie Club

2014 was another hectic year for Bride Rovers Ladies Football and Camogie Club, made all the better by the great weather during the summer. Our youngest group were our U8s who had a great turnout all year. Our U10s put in a great effort, continuing to train weather permitting into November and a highlight of the year was the huge international U10 blitz at Passage West in September.Our U12s played camogie in the Go-Games blitzes and competed in the East Cork league in football. Our U14s competed at East Cork level in football and reached a county semi-final in camogie, losing to Sliabh Rua.We won camogie shields at U13 and also at U15 level during the summer period.The U16s played County B camogie, winning 2 rounds but losing a county quarter final to Cloughduv. We qualified for County B football, losing to Eire Og narrowly in the quarter final. We still have an East Cork U16B football league final to play against Aghada, a title we won last year. Our minor footballers are East Cork B champions after Midleton would not turn out for the final. We also qualified for County B football and lost in the quarter final to Bandon on a day when we were hit badly by injuries. We enjoyed minor D camogie league success in the spring but lost in the Minor D championship final to Newcestown later in the year. We fielded 2 adult football teams, which combined for many practice games during the summer, which worked extremely well for us. Our first team competed with the best sides in Cork and reached new heights when they captured the Senior B league title in May, beating Boherbue in the final. We subsequently reached the Senior B championship final, beating a fancied Eire Og side on the way, but disappointingly lost the decider to Donoughmore Our Junior football team performed very well also capturing the 13-a-side A league title on a fantastic evening against St Peters in Clondrohid. We also drew with Fermoy B in the championship group but the steady loss of players to our senior side told eventually and we lost out in the last round game to Erins Own.Our adult camogie team competed at Junior B level this year and won the county final with a great performance against Glen Rovers B at Castle Road. We now step up to Junior A where tougher opposition awaits but our panel has lots of potential and confidence is high that they will take this in their stride.At intercounty level, Grace Kearney, Eleanor Ahern and Jennifer Barry were on the Cork senior ladies football panel which captured the All-Ireland title number 9 this year beating Dublin in an unforgettable final. Grace Culloty won an U16A All-Ireland ladies football also against Dublin. We are very proud of all the girls.Finally, we wish to thank Bride Rovers GAA Club for all their help and support during the year and especially for access to the pitches at all times, even during busy periods. We could not have been treated better. Finally, we wish the senior club all the best for the AGM and for 2014 in general.

BRIAN BOWS OUT
After a decade on the Cork senior hurling panel, we heard the news this spring that Brian Murphy was to retire from senior inter-county hurling. Brian previously had a hugely successful underage career with Bride Rovers St Colmanâs and Cork. Over the past ten yearâs Brian established himself as the countryâs best corner back winning 2 All-Irelandâs, a young hurler of the year and two All-Stars. Brian let us take this opportunity to say how proud we all were of you at Bride Rovers, and we wish you and your family the very best for the future, and look forward to seeing you in the Green White and Gold for many years yet.
Well Done Ger
On Tuesday the 19th of November it was confirmed that Ger Lane was the only candidate nominated for the position of Chairman of the Cork County Board, this in effect has made Ger Chairman elect and he will be ratified at the boards convention on December 14th. To have one of our club members ascend to the highest office in Cork GAA is a huge honour for the club. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the club to congratulate Ger, and wish him and his family all the best in his new role.
PAIRC NA BRIDE
Another busy year at Pairc na Bride. The main pitch continued to work at full capacity throughout the summer and Pynes pitch continued to work with the overflow. At the beginning of 2014 we received the good news that we had re-acquired a three year lease on Scanells field. Lights and polls were installed in Scanells and this proved to be hugely beneficial to the club especially in January and February where all our teams could still train at full capacity, while maintaining the main pitch at a time when the weather proves to be unpredictable. Special word of thanks to the Pyne and Scannell families who continue to provide us with these facilities.
2014 saw the club host many big championship games, which is always an honour; these included the first round of the IPHC between Watergrasshill and Castlelyons, on June 1st and the IFC between Glanworth and Cloyne, as well as numerous East Cork Championship games. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who give up their free time and help at these games.
On behalf of the Club I want to extend sincere thanks to our Grounds Officer John Murphy, the Field Committee as well as Tuas employees Gavin Walsh and Jamie Heffernan. They continue to maintain and develop the facilities of our club and do so in their free time.
In 2014, there was a huge increase in the use of our Astro-turf facility. This is available for hire by contacting James Birmingham. The pitch is suitable for 5-aside ground football and costs the small fee of â¬50 per hour with the lights.
This year also saw an increase in the use of our Gym facilities. Although we encourage people to use them, it is vital to put the weights back in their proper place after use to ensure that the Club room remains tidy. We also ask that the dressing rooms are locked after use and please Last out close the gates.
CAR BOOT SALE
Many thanks to all the people that helped out in the Car Boot sales over the past 12 months. This is an important way of returning the kind generosity shown to us by the Parish Development in the recent past and maintains our close links with the Parish development committee and the Community Council. A word of thanks to James Birmingham who continues to organise the rota for the Car Boot Sale. Anyone interested in helping out should give their names to the Club Chairman so that they can be added to the rota.

The club website, http://www.briderovers.ie, continues to go from strength to strength, with 46,000 pageviews between January and October 2014, an increase of 33% on the same period in 2013.The site has had visitors from 75 countries, as far away as Vietnam and the Philippines. Player profiles are the most popular section of the website, and one that we hope to improve further in 2015, followed by our gallery and news sections .Our History section has been added to this year, with match reports, segments of the Club History,â and Audio clips received from C103 .Material for the website can be submitted to myself at [gerardlanegaa@gmail.com]gerardlanegaa@gmail.com, and many thanks to all who have contributed this year.Our Twitter page, @BrideRoversGAA, recently passed the 1000-follower mark and is growing steadily.

SCOR
For the second year running the club had a very successful Scor campaign in the Leiriu section. The Leiriu is an act / sketch thats puts the emphasis on Irish History, culture and Mythology but can still have a comic content. 2013 saw our act reach the Munster final stage and 2014 saw the club make identical progress in the competition. The club made it through the East section, winning the county in Ovens in March for the second year running. The act then progressed through the Munster semi-final in Cappamore, then performing in the University of Limerick Concert hall in the Munster final, however progression through to the All-Ireland section was not to be, but once again it was a very enjoyable and successful campaign, and we look forward to taking part in Scor again in 2015. Well done to the cast: John Arnold Mossie OâSullivan, James Bermingham, Orla Arnold, Carol Marie Dooley, and Johnathon Brackett.
CLUB SHOP
Thanks to Betty Cahill and Kathleen Johnson for looking after the Club shop. They are busy at the moment handling the Christmas Orders and had a very successful night on Wednesday 20th of November with sales, so for that special Christmas gift, you might consider getting something from the Club Shop. There was a total of Seventeen club executive meetings held during the year with an average attendance of eleven and we would like to thank everyone who attended.
SCHOOLS COACHING
Many thanks to our school coaches, Brian Murphy, Brendan Walsh and James Birmingham for the hours of coaching they have done with the Rathcormac and Bartlemy National Schools. Gavin Walsh has recently joined our schools coaching team and we wish him well in his new role.
Sciath Na Scoil
Congrats to Bishop O Brien NS Bartlemy who played Ballincurrig NS in Sciath na Scol Finals in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Tuesday November 18th and came away with victory on a 1-6 to 0-3 scorline Congrats to all involved.
REFEREES
A special word of thanks to our Club Referees, James Birmingham, Pa OâDriscoll and Mark Murphy. Congratulations to James Birmingham who refereed the Cork Senior Football Championship final between, Ballincollig and Carbery Rangers, and to Mark Murphy who refereed the Junior A East Cork Football final Well done to Pa OâDriscoll who continues to represent the club though out the division and county. Best wishes to James Birmingham who is getting married on December 31st.

CLUB LOTTO
Funds raised every week by our Lotto Sellers are vital for the day to day running of the Club. The huge effort put in every week by our Lotto sellers is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to Vincent Frawley from Fermoy who scooped the Jackpot of â¬12,600 in February and well done to our own James Birmingham who claimed a Jackpot â¬5,000 in May. All drinks are on James on December 31st. Please support the Club Lotto as it is essential to the Clubâs day to day running and I would like to thank all our venues for hosting the Lotto on a weekly basis.
FUNDRAISING
At the Beginning of 2013 it was decided that the club needed to embark on a major fundraising drive in order to make up the shortfall that was required for phase two of our development. On December 26th last year the club organised a 5K fun Run. Despite the cold icy conditions and the fact that the route of the run had to be changed at the last minute, we had a good turnout; sponsorship cards were issued to all participants, and the event proved to be most enjoyable. Monies from this helps us to install lights in Scanells. In May we organised a scrap collection which took place over two weekends. The club received many kind donations of scrap and the event proved to be a success. Thanks to all those who donated. Thanks Tom Kearney Seamus Buckley and Billy Finnegan, who played a key role in transporting the scrap and thanks to the Ryan and Arnold Families who held the Scrap for us. In the summer the club provisionally booked a Fundraising night at the dogs at Curraheen Park for October 3rd. In September the club executive received a visit from the Managing Director of Curraheen Park Frank Oâ Mara, who took us through the ins and outs of what organising the night entailed, and from this point on we go to work. A Major drive to look for race sponsors, and add sponsors for the programme began. It was also decided that as a club we should call to every house in the parish in order to try and sell tickets. What happened over the next few weeks was phenomenal. The whole club pulled together and the effort and hours that people put in selling tickets and looking for sponsors will always be remembered by myself and my fellow officers. The night itself was a major success topped off by the memorable donkey derby Special mention to Dan Quill for the hours of work the put in. There was a great togetherness within in the club and the parish whist the organising of the night was took place. Special mention to all our ticket sellers, and to all those who bought tickets. Thanks to all those who sponsored races and adds on the night. Thanks to the Ladies and Juvenile clubs for the help they provided in the weeks leading up and on the night. Dan will later take you all through the financial outcomes of all our fundraising events in 2014 in his report.
Fermoy Print and Design
A word of thanks to Liam Barry and his staff at Fermoy Print and Design, Liam is always only a call away for me when I am requesting any printing needs for the club, He provides a first class service and is always most obliging. The hours of work Liam put in while designing and printing the programme for the night at the dogs were phenomenal, I want to take this opportunity to thank Liam, and wish him and his business all the best going forward.
Development Phase 2
At the end of 2012, the Club received an â¬80,000 Grant from the Sports Capital Grant Programme. This was followed by a donation of â¬20,000 from the Rathcormac Parish Development Fund, 2 County Council grants. Phase 2 of our development is similar to that of phase 1 in hat it is a 6 metre high hurling wall, with a 60x40 meter astro - turf facility During 2014 we have received the go ahead from our neighbours finalised the plans with our engineer and awarded the construction contract to our chosen contractors. The foundation for the wall has already being dug, and the Ryanâs are due in the coming weeks to begin construction of the wall. All paper work for the drawdown of the Sports Capital grant has being submitted. The project will be costing approx. two hundred thousand. If the grant is to be received, the development must be substantially completed by the end of January 2015.
The Rovers Return
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary since the reformation of the club in 1964. Although the club was officially founded in 1928, the club effectively with out of existence in 1961 due to a mix up with insurance resulting in no Bride Rovers teams being affiliated in 62 and 63. A great number of our players went to play with other local teams as they were entitled to do. On the 7th of December 1964 a meeting was held in Bartlemy Parish Hall with the purpose of re-organising the Bride Rovers Hurling and Football clubs the officers that were elected that night were:

Rathcormac Soc Init had an Outing to Wicklow on 11th of June with a full bus of 52 leaving the Village at 7.30 am. Breakfast was at the Horse & Hounds in New Ross. The Tour went on to Avoca, The Meeting of the Waters, and Glendalough. Back then to New Ross for dinner and home to Rathcormac by eleven pm or so.
Rathcormac Social Initiative Group had another very successful Outing to the Wicklow area on Thursday the 28th of August. This time we had to finish the tour we started in June when we never reached Powerscourt so interesting was the other areas in Wicklow that we stopped in. We left Rathcormac at 7.30am with a near full bus of 46 and headed up the main Dublin road to the Gandon Inn near Emo for an excellent Breakfast.
From there we headed for the cutlery Factory Shop of Newbridge, where we had a most interesting visit.
We then went on to Powerscourt House & Gardens. Luckily the weather was excellent and everybody was amazed & impressed by the magnificence & beauty of the Gardens.
We then continued on to the Powerscourt Waterfall which is a separate entity to the House & Gardens.
So we headed back on the bus to the Poitin Still in Rathcoole for an excellent 4 course Dinner.
We got back to Rathcormac in good spirits at about eleven pm and all agreed it was a great day out.
