Minors March On..

Minor Hurling v Mayfield.

Bride Rovers Minor hurlers travelled to Mayfield on Wednesday July the 13th to play the home team in the opening round of the Rebel Og Minor "B" Hurling Championships. The Rovers were quick off the mark with a DJ Cahill point.  This was followed with a long range free by Jesse O Keeffe which ended up in the Mayfield net.  With our midfielders well on top we took complete control of the game. Further goals from Shane O Flynn, Ian O Donoghue, Jordan Mannix and Conleith Ryan put the Rovers 5-4 to 0-3 ahead at the interval.

In the second half the Rovers dominated the play all over the field and ran out comfortable winners with a brace of goals from Conleith Ryan. The Rovers defence were rarely tested. This was a good performance  with some fine individual displays.

The final score was Mayfield 0 - 5  Bride Rovers 7 - 10

July 10 th at Bartlemy Tournament s/f Bride Rovers 8 1 Castlelyons 1 0.

All these games were in the lead up to the first round of the East Cork JBHC against Dungourney which was fixed for Midleton on July 31st. Meanwhile Seanie Barry was starring with Cork in the Munster SH championship. Cork drew with Clare, won the replay and then defeated  Limerick in the Provincial semi final- Seanie scored 0 3, 2 6 and 0 4 respectively in these three games as Gerald Mc Carthy led his Cork side to the Munster Final v Waterford on Sunday July 24th.

Dave Hoare RIP.

One of the stalwarts of the GAA in Cork died last week after a short illness. Dave Hoare from Conna was a lifelong member of St Catherines GAA Club. He served his club in many officerships and guided them to Senior Status. He was a long time Officer of the East Cork Board. As well as the games Dave loved our native culture and promoted Scor in a major way. He was truly a legend in his lifetime and he will be sorely missed by his relatives and all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

PHOTOGRAPH SOUGHT.

Recently members of the Mulvey family were back in Rathcormac. They are descendants of Frank Mulvey who was a publican at main St. Rathcormac. Originally Arnolds Public House the Mulvey family from Araglen took over the premises before 1920. Since then the Public house changed hands many times - the most recent owners were Benskins. The Mulveys would dearly love to get an old picture of the Public House when the name 'Mulvey' was over the door. If anyone has such a photograph or knows where there might be one please contact 087 9538077.
