County Final Countdown

The Cork County Senior Hurling Championship Final is on Sunday week and the excitement is something else around the parish. Ten years ago we wee in the Junior Final, five years ago we were in the Intermediate, but we’ve never experienced anything like this before. After the second semi final in Pairc Uí Chaoimh last Sunday, we knew that it will be an All-East Cork County Final with Sarsfields providing the opposition on Sunday week.

While Sars defeated Glen Rovers by just three points, they were, in most people’s opinion, far superior to the Blackpool side. They scored 2-14 and looked a very, very fast, skilful and strong side. They will be the hot favourites in the final. They’ve defeated Ballinhassig, Cloyne, Newtownshandrum and now Glen Rovers. Few leaving Pairc Uí Chaoimh last Sunday were giving us much of a chance in the final but in fairness Sars are entitled to be favourites. We know however that past performances never win games for anyone – it’s all on the day.

The atmosphere around the parish is just fabulous. The green, white and gold colours are to be seen everywhere, flags, buntings and signs. John Desmond’s paint shop in Rathcormac has had to replenish its stock of paint several times and he paint brushes are out all over the place. Its great to see young and old in the club colours – a reminder that the club shop will be open again this Saturday from 12 noon ‘til 1 o’clock. Club gear can be got or orders placed for different items.
